Wilbur Bentham (Bill) Everest III Obituary
Wilbur (Bill) Bentham Everest III Passed away at age 88 on May 31, 2014; a symbolic date given his honorable service in the Navy during World War II. Bill was born in Pasadena, CA to Wilbur Bentham Everest II and Maude Beidel Everest. His father died when he was very young and his mother was remarried to Robin Gray in 1930. While he preferred Bill, he respected the tradition of a name that has been passed down since Sir George Everest mapped and measured the mountain that now bears the name. It was in this spirit that Bill lived his life of service, passion and adventure. Bill married Maxine Landon in 1954 and together they moved to Marin, where they started a family, a new business Marin Lights, and a beautiful life together. During their 60 years of marriage, he and Maxine toured 78 countries and visited all seven continents. He retired in 1989 and moved to Kona, Hawaii, which soon became a beloved second home not only to them but also to their daughters, Karen Everest Mason (Timothy Brisbois), Cynthia Everest (Glen Banks) and Elizabeth Everest Moore (Shane Moore), and their grandchildren, Michael Mason, Megan and Kayla Bouch, Jessica and MacKenzie Moore. His devotion to artistic life demonstrates Bill's lifelong dedication to the things and people he loved. The beauty of the things he cherished; Hawaiian ocean waves, foreign places, family. These will be eternally preserved on the canvases he created. The celebration of Life Service is 2:30 PM Saturday, August 16th at St. John's Episcopal Church, Ross CA. Charitable tributes suggestions are to the Center For Health and Wellness of Marin General Hospital Foundation, 1350 So. Eliseo Dr., #140 Greenbrae, CA 94904 or Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94937. Assisted by Monte's Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo (415) 453-8440
