Obituary Condolences

Robert "Bob" Norwood Civil Engineer, Microbiology Professor, Property Manager, devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bob Norwood passed away on March 9, 2010 at home with his family. Born in San Francisco, Bob was a resident of Fairfax for 36 years. He was known in Fairfax as the Barefoot Businessman. Rain, shine, snow, business or pleasure, he did everything he could to sink his toes into the ground he stood on. Bob loved to surround himself in the beauty of nature. He created a garden paradise for his family and neighborhood friends to enjoy every day on top of a sunny ridge in Fairfax. You could always hear him whistling a happy tune while walking barefoot up and down the lane he resided on admiring his poppies, daffodils, fruit trees or watering his lawn with his homemade compost. Bob was a true adventurer and enjoyed every bit of outdoor space Marin had to offer. You could find him piloting family and friends around the Bay Area in his Cessna, racing dirt bike motorcycles with his daughter at Marshall Field, mountain biking to the top of Mt. Tam, scuba diving in Monterey or reading how he could visit the moon. Six years ago, he was diagnosed with stage four cancer and was told he had six months to live. He decided he was going to "ride the cancer out of me." He managed to keep the cancer from spreading by riding his mountain bike up to Mt. Tam form Fairfax every few days. His last six years defines" when there's a will there's a way" and Bob had the will. He leaves his wife Kathy, daughters Kiersten and Wendy, his son-in-law Ian, and two grandchildren Caitlin and Ryan. His whistles, stories, smile, love, laughter and curiosity will be missed. His soul remains in all of us forever. Bob may you rest in peace. Private services will be held. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
