Eric Norstad Obituary

Eric Norstad March 21, 1924-Jan. 14, 2013 Eric Norstad passed away at his home January 14, with his family at his side. Born in Valhalla, NY on March 21, 1924 to Magnus and Lillian Norstad, he was predeceased by his siblings Eloise, Robert, and Norman. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II in Heliopolis, Egypt. Following the war, he moved with his parents to Yucaipa and Oak Glen, CA, helping them to build their homes there. Eric graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in architecture. It was at the University that he met his wife, Ruth; they were married for 59 years. Eric is survived by his wife and children: Eric (Shelly), Mark (Donna), Maija, and Kurt (Kirsten), and by his grandchildren Ian (Alexa), Francesca, Sean, Byron, Matthew, Calvin, and Natalie. Eric was a resident of Corte Madera since 1959. He was an associate architect for Warren Callister in Tiburon until 1964, then pursued a full-time career in architectural ceramics. Norstad Pottery's distinctive stoneware is well-known, and featured in households and museums throughout the Bay Area and the nation. Eric was a kind and generous man. His quiet wisdom and unassuming strength of character served as an example to all. He was fortunate to have lived a rich and full life, and will be greatly missed by the many people who loved him. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
