Joy Marie Peterson Obituary
JOY MARIE PETERSON Joy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1921 and passed away in Greenbrae on April 22, 2013. She attended Cable's Business College in St. Paul and some night classes at the University of Minnesota. She married Floyd (Pete) Peterson in 1950 and moved across country to Marin County in 1953. They were married for 29 years before Pete passed away in 1979. She is survived by three daughters Jan Lynell Kapral (Gary), Susan Anderson (Richard), and Carole Murgatroyd (Jim) and a half-sister Jane Van Dyke (Bronson). She has four grand children Jennifer, Troy, Shane, Nathan and two great grand children Summer and Sean. Her son, Lee (at age 20) and second husband, Dean Short, pre-deceased her. Joy worked as a school secretary in the San Rafael City Schools for 26 years until her retirement. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael. She volunteered for the PW at the Church. She was a member of the Terra Linda Guild of Sunny Hills Services, Marin Art and Garden Center's Northgate Guild, Friends of Hospice, Marin Baseball Club, Marin Star Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved dancing with the Novato Squares for many years. She was an avid Oakland A's and Raider's fan. In her later years she loved to play bridge, dominos, and croquet. The family wishes to thank all of her friends and the staff of the Tamalpais Retirement Center in Greenbrae for their love and support. A big thank you goes to Hospice by the Bay for help over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Hospice by the Bay or play a card game in her honor. A celebration of Joy's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael on Saturday, May 25th at 3:00 PM.
