Robert E. Thatcher MARION: Robert E. Thatcher, 79, of Marion, passed away Wednesday December 17, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following complications from a surgical procedure. Bob was born July 26, 1935 in Marion, Ohio to Earl and Mildred Thatcher and graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1953. Bob served his country in the United States Army and was employed at the Marion Power Shovel and the Marion Star where he was a sports writer for many years. Bob is survived by his loving companion of ten years, Marilyn Harty; two sons, Joel (Cherri) Thatcher of Estill Springs, Tennessee and Greg (Audrey) Thatcher of Galion, Ohio; four grandchildren, Amber (Wayne) Roche of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Sasha (Jonathan) Knowles of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Emma and Sophia Thatcher of Galion, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Lana Thatcher and Dylan Knowles of Shelbyville, Tennessee. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard (Phyllis) Thatcher and William (Judy) Thatcher both of Marion, Ohio, Michael (Sherry) Thatcher of Huron, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan especially football and women's basketball. He also loved the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed camping and golf. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waldo, Ohio. Officiated by Pastor Sarah Schaaf. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dorothy J. Turner UPPER SANDUSKY: Dorothy J. Turner, age 92, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 4:55am at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky. Dorothy was born on December 1, 1922 in Marion, Ohio to John and Alta (Swabb), both of whom are deceased. She married John W. "Red" Turner on January 11, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia, and he died on March 15, 2007. She is survived by a son, Thomas E. Turner of San Francisco, California; five grandchildren, Riki (Michael) Holpuch of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rev. Robert (Susie) Turner of Pataskala, Ohio, Nicholas Turner of the US Navy, Lena Turner of Oakland California, Jessica Clarke, Marion, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Will and Zach Holpuch, Maddy and Marissa Turner; and a daughter in law, Jane Turner of Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Davis; and a son, Philip John Turner. Dorothy was a homemaker and for hobbies she enjoyed quilting with her special group of friends, shopping and cooking. Funeral services for Dorothy J. Turner will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairhaven Community and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
