James H. Rider MARION: James H. Rider age 92 of Marion, Ohio passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 26, 1921 in Marion County, Ohio to the late Ottis E. and Clara (Biekle) Rider. On September 5, 1948 he married Barbara L. (Withrow). James was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. After the war he was employed at Tecumseh Products and then was employed for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years as a carrier. James was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and a life member of V.F.W. Post #7201. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rider of Marion, OH,; his children, Rebecca L. Driscoll of Wyle, Tx., Lesa L. (Doug) Milligan of St. Marys, OH., five grandchildren, Douglas (Traci) Milligan Jr., Jeffrey Milligan, James Driscoll, Christopher Driscoll, David Driscoll; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi (John) Saunders of Wyoming, OH., Mary Janette Jordan of Marion, OH.; and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Rider. Visitation will be Monday, April 14, 2014 from 4 - 7 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 @ 11 AM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Marion County Veterans Council after the service. Burial will take place at a later date. Roland Duke Ridgeway, Jr. RICHWOOD: Roland Duke Ridgeway, Jr., 67 of Richwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 8, 2014 at the Kobacker House in Columbus. He was born June 28, 1946 in Kenton to the late Roland Duke Sr. and Anna (Reese) Ridgeway. He was a 1964 graduate of Richwood High School. A friend to all in the Richwood area, Duke was the 40 year owner of Ridgeway Trailers just outside of the village on State Route 47. A racer at heart, Duke was a big supporter of the Richwood area Gibson family racing ventures through the years. He saw many checkered flags with Jeff Gibson at the wheel of his 305 open wheel Sprint Car. Ridgeway actually started racing a 55 Chevrolet at Shady Bowl Speedway in the Hobby Stock, in the late 60s and early 70s, out of his garage on Franklin Street. From there, he started his privately owned business, putting his brand and trailers in many locations throughout the land. A welder at heart, there was nothing Duke could not do or figure out how to do. He is survived by a son, Roland Todd Ridgeway, Marion; a grandson, Matthew Roland Ridgeway, Mt. Gilead; a brother, Rodney Ridgeway, Marion; and his long time companion and soul mate, Esther Gilbert, Richwood. Funeral services will be Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Bill Wasserbeck officiating. Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery. Charles A."Chuck" Shealy MOUNT GILEAD: Charles A."Chuck" Shealy, age 95, of Mount Gilead, died Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014. He was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on October 14, 1918, the son of the late Walter A. and Grace E. (Smith) Shealy. On April 24, 1948, Charles married the late Roberta J. (Morris) Shealy. Together they shared 56 years of marriage. Chuck had a passion for the outdoors. His interests included hunting, fishing, and taxidermy. He served as a game warden for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. Many of his years as the game warden were spent in Morrow County; however, he also worked in the surrounding counties. A veteran of the United States Army, Chuck served our nation during World War II. He attended Edison United Methodist Church with his late wife. Chuck will be missed by his daughter, Claudia A. Shealy of Athens, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; parents: Walter and Grace; sister and brother-in law: Susan and Frederick McGovern. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery, 13623 County Highway 119, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351, with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Rather than flowers, the family suggests memorial contribution be made in his memory to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, Marion County Veterans Services, or to the Friends of Mount Gilead State Park, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home. Robert Paul Sherer MARION: Robert Paul Sherer, age 95, of Marion died peacefully Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Marion Manor. Born in Marion, Ohio October 20, 1918 to the late John H. and Maud (McAllister) Sherer, Robert was a WWII Army Veteran. On October 19, 1944, Bob married Priscilla Pauline (Craig) Sherer who passed away April 20, 2003. In 1983, after four decades of dedicated service, he retired from Landmark (formerly Farm Bureau) of Ohio as Petroleum Manager for Marion and Morrow counties. Since childhood, Bob has been a member and faithful supporter of Marion First Church of the Nazarene. Bob is survived by one daughter, Susan (Donald) White of Edison; one son, James (Malinda) Sherer of Bourbonnais, IL; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one special friend, Jean Fahrion. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Priscilla; two sisters: Lillian Miracle and Martha Henry; five brothers: Glen, Claude, Roy, Donald, and Jack; and one grandson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors on Thursday, April 17, 2014. A funeral service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 233 West Church Street, Marion, Ohio at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2014 with Associate Pastor Steven deWeber officiating. Mary Sue Toombs MARION: Mary Sue Toombs age 64 of Marion, Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her residence. She was born February 19, 1950 in Marion, Ohio to the late Floyd and Mattie (Layne) Wilson. A lifelong resident of Marion, Ohio she was employed at Whirlpool Corporation for 8 years, was a member of American Legion Post #162, Moose Lodge #889 and Amvets Post #138. Mary is survived by her children, Edward Lee (Lisa) Toombs Jr. of Marion, OH, Bud (Steph) Toombs of Marion, OH, Veronica Roberts of Chillicothe, OH, Venessa (Jack) Brown of Marion, OH; companion and best friend for the past 20 years, Cliff Holycross Sr. of Marion, OH; 15 grandchildren, J.D. Brown, Preston Toombs, Alan Roberts, Shantel Brown, Mariah Toombs, Alexus Toombs, Sarenity Toombs, Latorian Troutman, Radayja Peters, Clayton Holycross, Chris Holycross, Kyle Holycross, Brittany Persinger, Ashly Persinger, Christine Holycross; nine great grandchildren, Olyvia Markley, Anessa Brown, Nautica Thacker, John Thacker, Mya Adams, Za'Riyah Glover, Little Tader (baby boy Roberts) on the way; sisters, Sharon (Butch) McKnight of FL, June (Gary) Mueck of Marion, OH.
