Anne L. Gehrisch
MARION: Anne L. Gehrisch, of Marion and formerly of Mount Gilead, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, June 15, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a year long battle with brain cancer. She was 74 years old.
On January 3, 1939, Anne was born in Chester Township on the Denman family farm, the youngest of two children of the late Robert "Jeff" and Dorothy (Denman) Dunn. She graduated from Chesterville High School in the Class of 1957.
Shortly following high school, Anne was working at the General Industries in Bellville, Ohio where she met her husband to be, Bruce Gehrisch. It took a little persuasion on his part and they were married soon thereafter on April 22, 1961.. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised two children, Michael and Jodi. They lived in Mount Gilead for most of their marriage, until they moved to Marion in 2006.
For nearly 30 years, Anne worked at the H.P.M Corporation in Mount Gilead, retiring in 2000.
A woman of faith, Anne was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, where she served for many years as secretary on their administrative board. She also volunteered to help with their Wednesday night community service dinners, and played the piano whenever she was needed. Growing up, she had been a member of the Chesterville United Methodist Church and of the Washington Club, a historic 100 year old ladies group.
One of Anne's favorite pastimes was shopping. She could spend hours upon hours in a mall looking for clothes and jewelry, especially if they also had a greeting card store, where she would thoroughly look for the perfect card for her family and friends.
The apples of her eye were her precious grandchildren. She loved to bake cookies and bread for them, and would even mail care packages to them at college to try and spoil them when they were away.
With a love for traveling, Anne and Bruce enjoyed many vacations together. They took several trips to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and California, but most of their trips were to Michigan and Maryland to spend time with their children and grandchildren.
Always smiling, Anne and her "big, beautiful, bright blue eyes" would melt you. She had such a sweet and fun loving personality that helped her make friends in an instant. She was a great listener, and all of her family and friends knew they could turn to her if they needed someone to lend an ear. She was your biggest fan, and was always there for you.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Bruce Gehrisch of Marion; two children: Michael Denman Gehrisch (Victoria ) of Bethesda, Maryland, and Jodi (Ronald) Miller of Macomb, Michigan; three grandchildren: Mitchell Gehrisch of Washington DC, and Trevor and Brittni Miller; a brother, William "Bill" (Connie) Dunn of Marion; three nieces: Lisa (Jeff) Turner, Lori (Peter) Backlund, and Linn (Ted) Wade; and five great nieces and nephews.
Her family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 E. High St., Mount Gilead, with Rev. Lori Burdette-Steele and Rev. Joe Sopher officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marion General Hospital Hospice, and Trinity United Methodist Church. They may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
