John S. Miley

MARION: John S. Miley, age 85, of Marion passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 6:25 p.m.

He was born November 15th, 1927 near Radnor, Ohio to Samuel and Daisy (Daum) Miley. He grew up on a farm near Essex, graduated from Richwood High School in 1945, attended Capital University, and later moved to Prospect, Ohio in 1948. John served in the U.S.Army from 1951 - 1953. His working years were spent at the Marion Engineer Depot, Fort Hayes, and D.C.S.C. in Columbus where he retired after 32 years of goverment service. On September 30th, 1976, he married Norma M. (Rasey) Custer. They moved to Marion from Prospect in 1992. John is a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God Church where he served on various church boards, a member of the Marion Senior Center, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He most recently was employed at Lowes for 8 years. John enjoyed driving all over the 48 states of the U.S. and has traveled to Hawaii, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, The Holy Land, Austrailia, and New Zealand. He truly enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and visiting with people.

John is survived by his wife, Norma; step daughter, Paula (Scott) Whaley of Carlboro, N.C.; two grandsons, Tyler Temple & Alan Whaley, two granddaughters, Kristin Temple & Melodie Whaley; several cousins, and several special Vietnamese grandchildren. John also made a home for six foster children.

Preceeding him in death was a grandson, Travis Temple. He was acting Grandfather for the Royal Family Kids Camp for 4 years and was part of the Alleliua Gang from Waldo.

Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, from 3-7 p.m. Pastor Doug Ford will conduct the funeral service in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the Prospect Cemetery.
