COLUMBUS: Myron Ferry, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Kobacker House after a five month struggle to recover from surgery due to a fall.
He was born in 1924 in Salamanca, New York, spent his formative years in Marion, Ohio and most of his adult life in Dublin, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Ruth Ferry; his parents, Myron E. Ferry, Sr. and Lorene Pensinger; step-father, Elmer Pensinger; brother, Charles Pensinger; and brother-in-law, James Kratzer.
Myron was a World War II
Veteran, serving as a naval officer in the United States Navy
and eventually captaining a ship. He had a long career in the food industry first as general manager of the Monarch Food Corporation and then as owner of a chain of grocery stores. He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. He will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family, his kindness to all he encountered and his genuine love for life. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Dad was known community-wide as a caring coach of youth baseball for many years in Dublin. He was a passionate Ohio State Buckeye fan, and loved gardening and landscaping. He was extremely generous to others.
He is survived by his four children: Nancy, Jane, Susan and Mike (Kim) Ferry; grandchildren: Jason 17, Emily 16 and Jack 14; sister: Linda (George) Kratzer Ratzenberger; brother-in-law: John (Linda) Beal; sister-in-law: Helen (Ross) Bair; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm. FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2013 at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471 where the funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 Noon on FRIDAY. Reverend Gene Folden will officiate. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Parkway.) Private family interment will be observed after the service at Marion Cemetery, Marion, Ohio.
