Rachael E. Palm
LEXINGTON: One could not help but admire Rachael Palm. As a student, she never failed to rise to the challenge of the goals that she set for herself. As a patient, she never allowed her diagnoses of lupus or juvenile arthritis to defeat her. And as a friend, she never permitted someone else who felt outcast or down-and-out to remain that way.
Rachael worked two jobs most of her adult life in order to be able to help others in her life. And in her young life, she successfully balanced work, continuing her education, and the responsibilities of a mother.
Rachael passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 in her rural Lexington home following a short illness. She was 23.
Born September 14, 1989 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Heather Massie and Jeffrey Palm. Growing up on a farm, she was active with Country Crossroads 4-H Club. She showed livestock and entered her fashion pieces, baked goods and woodworking for the judged competitions...often winning at both the county and state levels. She was an active beekeeper.
Rachael was graduated from Lexington High School in 2008, and pursued her degree in nursing at North Central State College and Marion Technical College, ready to start her clinicals. She worked for years at Brown Derby Roadhouse building strong bonds with customers and co-workers alike. More recently she worked at Galion Pointe, covering third shift in the skilled nursing facility. Despite her own personal physical pain, Rachael was a pursuing a career aimed at alleviating others' pain. She recently completed Central Ohio EMS Training in anticipation of her state test.
She is survived by her mother Heather Solon of Mansfield; her son JJ Palm Rhoades; her grandparents with whom she made her home Carma & Rex Hankins of Lexington; her grandmother Kaye Massie of Lucas; sisters Emily Solon, Katie Solon and Abby Solon all of Mansfield; stepfather Mark Solon of Mansfield; special friend Chris Bailey; great grandparents Jan Donnenwirth, Erma Adams and Robert Palm all of Mansfield; aunts and uncles Sarah & Gladamir Martinez, Kenneth Massie, Dale & Judith Hankins, Todd Alan & Chris Hankins and Mark & Carol Hankins; a large circle of friends including Mary Border and Leigh Hannon whom she considered "sisters"; cousins and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father Jeffrey J. Palm on June 16, 1995. Also deceased are her grandfather Paul Massie; great grandparents Hubert & Betty Henderson, Kenneth Donnenwirth and Lena & Paul Barber; and uncle Kevin Hankins.
Her family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Pastor Millissa Hartson will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
