Richard L. McLain

MARION: Richard L. McLain, age 84, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Richard was born on October 23, 1929 in Marion, the son of the late Walter L. and Goldie G. (Street) McLain. He graduated from Harding High School. In 1948, Richard joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country. Before he entered the Navy, Richard began his career working for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. After his time in the service, he continued to work for the Erie Lackawanna and Conrail Railroad. He retired in 1992 with over 40 years of service obtaining the position of chief dispatcher.

On July 1, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Tuttle in Marion, Ohio. Together they have shared nearly 66 years of marriage.

Richard was a very hard worker and always provided for his family. He enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada, watching any type of car racing, gardening, cooking and wintering in Florida with his wife. He also enjoyed being active in bowling and golf leagues, the VFW, Lowellville Rod & Gun Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #62 F&AM. After retiring, he graciously volunteered his time at the Bay Village Ohio Senior Center providing transportation and helping with the bookkeeping.

He is survived by his wife Patricia A. McLain; his children: Kathleen McLain, Kristine Madaleno, Karen McLain-Valentine and Jonathan (Christine) McLain; grandchildren: Brianna McLain, Izabel Madaleno, Evelyn and Julia Valentine, Owen and Liam McLain; great grandson, Elijah McLain; and a sister, Donna (the late Emmet) Schuster.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion from 12Noon to 1PM; Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM.
