Samuel Lee Bracy, Sr.
TRAVARES, FL: Samuel Lee Bracy, Sr., 77, departed this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care, Tavares, Florida, following a brief illness.
Sam was born on April 15, 1935 in Fairfield, Alabama to the late Samuel L. and Anna B. (Strother) Bracy. Sam re-located to Marion in 1947 to live with his mother and step-father, James Cofer. Sam attended Marion City Schools and enjoyed playing Football and Baseball. In 1958, Sam was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving two years in Germany. In 1960, Sam returned home and met a beautiful young lady by the name of Ida (Dimples) Wright and on April 8, 1961, they were wed in Holy Matrimony. Sam was a laborer; having worked at various factories' including Commercial Steel, Marion Power Shovel, & Whirlpool before retiring from Container Recovery Corporation in 1980 due to an injury. Sam loved life, his friends and his family and would never hesitate to offer assistance to anyone who needed it. Sam was a former member of the Delaware Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Marion.
Sam is survived by sons, Strother (Melody) Bracy of Florida, Samuel Jr. of Columbus and James (Punita) Simmons of Marion; daughters, Tammy Bracy, Genna (Carl) Gibson-Terry, and Maria Worthington Chandler all of Columbus; a brother, Strother Bracey of Florida; Sam has 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ida; three daughters, Sandra and Aretha Bracy, and Cyndee Richardson; a step-son, Jerry Wade; and a sister, Mary Louise Butler.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kings Temple Apostolic Church, 285 Senate Street, Marion, Ohio 43302, with Elder Tyrone Kaiser officiating and the Eulogy being delivered by his loving daughter-in-law, Rev. Martis Bracy.
