Shirley E. Lackey
MOUNT GILEAD: Shirley E. Lackey, age 86, of Mount Gilead, was reunited with her husband, Monday morning, January 20, 2014, at the Woodside Village Care Center following an extended illness.
On November 7, 1927, Shirley was born in Fayette, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur and Jessie (Goff) Ball. She graduated from Pioneer High School in the Class of 1947.
Shortly after graduation, Shirley married Harold Lackey, better known as "Red" on January 23, 1949, in Pioneer, OH. They shared almost 64 years of marriage, lovingly raising four children along the way. He preceded her in death nearly a year ago to the day, January 22, 2013.
For a few years, Shirley was a secretary for the Morrow County Chamber of Commerce, where she also helped with the welcome wagon. She then became an Avon Rep and has enjoyed that job over the last 26 years. She truly enjoyed visiting with her customers and keeping up with their lives.
Shirley was a serious Bingo player, always having multiple cards in front of her with her dabber ready. She enjoyed relaxing in front of the television watching westerns, Shirley Temple movies, and I Love Lucy. She also spent time embroidering pillowcases and quilting.
Family was a big part of Shirley's life. They enjoyed getting together for meals, holidays, and decorating Christmas cookies. She was a sweet and sassy woman who will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons: Craig (Lynn) Lackey of Perrysville, Jeff Lackey of Reynoldsburg; two daughters: Dawn ( Von VanHouten) Lackey of Martel, Renee (Thom) Kannally of Worthington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren a great- granddaughter on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
