Retired Common Pleas Judge Thomas C. Fetter
TUCSON, AZ: Retired Common Pleas Judge Thomas C. Fetter, age 93, passed away at his home in Tucson, AZ on November 19, 2012.
He was born in Marion, OH on November 23, 1918, the son of Austin Fetter and Nora Ponn Fetter.
Growing up in Marion OH, he attended Greenwood elementary School, Vernon Jr. High School and graduated from St Mary High School in the class of 1936. He attended Ohio Northern University, interrupting his education to enlist in the Army
Air Corps in August 1941. His basic training was at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas; from there he went to pilot training at Grider Field, Pine Bluff, AR. His bombardier training was at Ellington Field, Houston, TX and Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque NM where he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. On July 4, 1942. He then served in the 5th Air Force 90th Bomb Group in Australia and Papua, New Guinea from September 1942 to April 1944, flying more than 50 missions. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses for Valor and a Presidential Unit Citation and was promoted to the rank of Captain before returning to the U. S. in May 1944.
On June 10, 1944 he married Jo Mario in Pine Bluff, AR. There were married 68+ years. She survives along with their son, Tom Jr. (Kathy) and grandson's, Austin and Derek. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in June 1946 and is a Juris Doctor. He was in private practice in Marion from 1946 to 1976. In 1976, he was elected Common Pleas Judge of Marion County and served until he retired in 1988. After retiring he divided his time between Marion and Tucson, AZ. In 2006, due to health issues he and Mrs. Fetter moved to Tucson, AZ.
From 1972 -2006, he served as National Secretary-Treasurer of the 90th Bomb Group Reunion Association.
