Marvin D. Buckingham

MARION: Marvin D. Buckingham, former Marion resident, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 26, 2012, in Medina, Ohio at the age of 77. Marvin was born on February 14, 1935 in Marion, Ohio to Roy & Grace (Adams) Buckingham.

A 1953 graduate of Marion Harding High School, Marvin received an Associates Degree at Macintosh College in New Hampshire. His greatest assets were his integrity and his trust worthiness He served for eight years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. He was also a Commander in the U.S. Power Squadron and a member of the American Legion.

Marvin was an incredibly gifted musician. Many people were blessed by his piano and organ playing including the Air Force brass and church friends. He worked for 30 years as a field engineer in NW Ohio for Pitney-Bowes before retiring in 1995.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Gaye (nee Stanley) Buckingham whom he married on June 24, 1965 in Marion; their son, Mark; daughter-in-law Jennifer; sister, Mida (Gary) Callahan and family; as well as grandchildren, Isabelle, Emily, Sarah, Margarette, and Luke; He is also survived by his very close companions, Cleo & Ceasar, his two dogs. Preceeding him in death were a brother, Roy Buckingham Jr; and a sister, Mary Helen Rudy.

Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, from 12 Noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Jim Stevens will officiate and burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Marion Co. Veterans Council. Marvin's favorite charity is the Marion County Humane Society.
