MARION: Herbert H. Conroy Sr. age 78 of Marion passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Marion General Hospital.

Born May 6, 1934 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late William Conroy and Carrie (Gahm) Conroy Mathews. Herbert graduated from Harding High School in 1952. He served in the US Army as a mechanic from 1957 until 1959. Herbert worked for Race Motors for 30 years and retired from GTE as an auto mechanic in 1996. He was of Methodist Faith, his passions were gardening, Barney his dog, and Barber Shop Quartet. A very giving man, he would do anything for anybody. He never met a stranger, and had a quirky sense of humor.

In 1955 Herbert married the love of his life Emma (Hogan) Conroy and she survives in Marion; also surviving are two sons, Herbert (Susan) Conroy Jr, Joseph (Anita) Conroy; sister, Patty Laughman; brothers, Ronald and Gary Conroy, Dick and Bob Mathews; three grandchildren, Kevin Conroy, Jedediah Jones, Eric Jones; two great-grandchildren, Landon Jones, and Logan Jones.

Herbert is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carolyn Jones; and one brother, William Conroy.

Family will receive friends Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 7, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Rev. Ed Fugate Officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with the Marion County United Veterans Council conducting Military Honors.
