Charles Dennis Obituary

Charles Munroe Dennis, 76, of Orleans, died May 4, 2012 at the Cambridge Spaulding Hospital. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, October 17, 1935, the only son of Gerald Munroe Dennis and Jennie Kramer Dennis. "Chuck", as he was known to his family and friends, grew up in Evanston and also Rosemont, PA. Summer vacations were enjoyed at the family home in West Falmouth, MA. After graduating from the Haverford School and Hampden-Sydney College, he served two years in the U.S. Army, much of that time spent in Japan. A life-long bachelor, Chuck spent his working years in sales, principally in Richmond, VA. His boyhood fondness for Cape Cod, led him to retire to Orleans in the early 1990s. There, he indulged, in his love of sailing and pursued the interest in jazz that made him something of an authority on the subject. Chuck is survived by his sister, Marianne Dennis Philbrick, his brother-in-law, Thomas Philbrick, of Centerville and by his nephews, Nathaniel Philbrick of Nantucket and Samuel Philbrick of Manchester-by-the-Sea, both of whom saw Chuck through the difficult last months of his life with great devotion. A Memorial Service for Chuck will be held Friday, May 11th at 2:00pm in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., (Rte. 6A) Barnstable, MA. Burial will be private.
