Donna May Hedges
GREEN CAMP: Donna May Hedges, age 81, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 6, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her loving husband, Lowell, preceded her in death.
Donna is survived by her sister Ruth Millisor of Marion, Ohio; her daughters Laurie (Stan) Carlyle of Marion, Sheryl Hedges of Columbus; and son L. Mark (Grace) Hedges of Orchard Park, New York; Donna is the proud grandmother of eight, Adam (Becky) Carlyle, Leah Carlyle, Nathan (Jennifer) Carlyle, Matthew (Renee Amanda) Carlyle, Sarah (Jason) Horan, Emily (Joshua) Workman, Rachel Hedges, and Anna Hedges; and great-grandmother of five, Caedmon Carlyle, Liam Carlyle, Emerson Carlyle, Eleanor Horan and Andrew Horan.
Donna was born on September 12, 1930 to Ray Millisor and Mary (Simko) Millisor. She attended Pleasant High School and graduated in 1948. She met her sweetheart, Lowell, there. They married on June 26, 1949. She and Lowell raised their family in Green Camp, Ohio where they lived the majority of their more than 60 years together.
Donna earned her Bachelor's degree at the Ohio State University and taught Home Economics in the Elgin School District for more than 30 years. Donna contributed her leadership and creative talents to the Future Homemakers of America, 4-H, Sunday school teaching, church suppers, and many school activities, like organizing senior proms and school banquets. She also participated in the Green Camp and Pleasant Senior Citizens, Gideons International Women's Auxillary and met regularly with her friends in the Friendship Club. She especially enjoyed partnering with Lowell in his many endeavors and travels. Donna was a gifted seamstress, cook, and avid gardener, who loved adventure and a good challenge. She loved making her house a home and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. Her family remembers her as a noble woman who displayed great patience and strength. Though her memory failed in her final years with Alzheimer's, her sweet disposition, loving heart and sense of humor never faded.
A memorial service will be held at the Green Camp United Methodist Church in Green Camp, Ohio on October 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
