MARION: Elmer E. Schnittker, age 97, of Marion passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at 4:45 p.m. in his home.
He was born on March 6, 1915 in East St. Louis, Ill. to Edmund W. and Mae (Knight) Schnittker. Elmer married the former Betty Marie Walker on February 26, 1943 in Marion and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2006. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the Salem Church of God, and American Legion Post 584. Elmer began working with the Universal Cooler Corp. and continued work as a foreman with Tecumseh Products for 36 years until his retirement in 1975.
He is survived by a daughter, Sherry Schnittker (companion: Randy Roshon) of Morral, Oh.; four grandchildren, Sabrina, Vicki, Joey, & Tracey; eight great grandchildren, Shane, Kaylan, Lacey, Haley, Deserea, Emily, Chelsea, & Blake; two great great grandchildren, Kaden & Keeton; and a daughter-in-law, Nina M. Schnittker of Marion, Oh.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and a son, Richard Schnittker.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. Pastor Tom Mulholland will conduct the funeral service in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
