DELAWARE: Jane Tillett, age 75 of Delaware and formerly of Marion passed away early Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012 while surrounded by her family in Willow Brook at Delaware Run. Born on April 15, 1937 in Zanesville, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mable (Gibson) Tavenner.
She was a graduate of New Concord High School in 1955, it was there she met her high school sweetheart, Herb Tillett. With a degree in education from Muskingum College, she and Herb, a longtime Marion educator came to Marion and were married on June 12, 1960. Together they made a home, raised a family, and participated in the lives of their family and grandchildren. They traveled and contributed to the Marion community in numerous ways. After 48 wonderful years together, Herb, whom she called Toby, passed away on December 21, 2008.
An elementary reading teacher, she taught in the Marion City School System at Glenwood Elementary School for 25 years, retiring in 1996.
Jane was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church and also volunteered at the OSU Marion Branch. A former member of the Kings Mill Women's Golf League, her other interests include decorating and reading.
Gentle and thoughtful, she possessed the caring traits of warmth and love for all who were blessed to know her. She always made the Christmas season special. She will be remembered for her warm engaging smile, her work with children's education, and her love of family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Scott (Brenda) Tillett of Powell and Cathy (John) Scowden of Gahanna; treasured grandchildren, Weston and Grace Tillett, Anne, Rebecca, and Keith Scowden; and brother, Donald Tavenner of Tallahassee, FL.
Friends may call Friday 4-7 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 E. Center St., Marion, where services will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Hoffman and Chaplain Dan Kiger officiating, burial will follow in Marion Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Denzer, Farison, Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home.
