MARION: Jean Ann Messmer,age 83, of Marion died peacefully in her home after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, while in the care of her great niece; Barb Perini and her aid; Ashley. She was born in Marion on November 15, 1928 to Samuel V. and Bessie Barbara (Drake) Kern. Jean married Robert M. Messmer on June 28, 1958 in Marion and he survives.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church for 54 years where she and Robert were married by Rev. M.E. Hollensen. She was also a member of the Womens Auxillary of the Moose Lodge # 889 and enjoyed dancing, cooking, & baking. Jean was employed as a beautician for over 50 years at various salons throughout Marion before retiring in 1995.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two grandchildren, Shannon Alspach of Marion & Misty (Willie) Perkins of Chillicothe, Oh.; four great granchildren, Justin Bullion, Mason Alspach, Kacie Gannon, & Gerald Long II; two brother-in-laws, David Messmer & Earl (Grace) Messmer; five sister-in-laws, Evelyn Kern, Thelma Kern, Reva Jane Thompson, Alice Smith, & Linda Messmer; along with many nieces & nephews. One of her most cherished survivors was her beloved cat, "Baby".
Jean was preceded in death by her son, Terry Ray Alspach in 1997; three brothers; and four sisters.
A graveside service will be held in the Meeker Cemetery on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Mark Schuring will officiate. No calling hour will be observed.
