Mary Jemima Weist Walters

BEND, OR: Mary Jemima passed peacefully on December 10, 2012 after suffering a massive stroke November 24th. She was 96 years old.

Mary was born in Kenton, Ohio on September 5, 1916 to Mary Leota and George E. Weist and raised in La Rue and Marion, Ohio.

She married Arluss L. Walters on June 28, 1936 and they had two children, Marvin Walters of Bend, OR and Rita Walters Walker of Fullerton, CA. Her family also includes four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, extended family and many friends with whom she enjoyed family reunions and fun adventures.

The family lived in Ohio until 1957 when they relocated to Anaheim, Calif where they lived for about 18 years.

Their home in Anaheim was a hub for gatherings of family and friends. When the children were older, Mary worked at Hillhaven Nursing Home for 10 years providing loving care to the patients. Mary was also the family historian, recording genealogy as well as sharing many stories from the past with her family and friends.

When Arluss retired, they took to the open road traveling in various RV's around the United States with at least one dog in tow for the next 15 years. They enjoyed traveling and visiting with family. Mary was the navigator and an excellent map reader, you couldn't get her lost! After Arluss' death, she continued to travel by air to Ohio and Calif.

Mary is survived by her children, Marvin (Karen) and Rita; her grandchildren, Tracy Haberland, Christine (Michael) Leoniak, Matthew (Tina) Walker and Michael (Dawn) Walters; also by her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hallie, Parker, Nolan & Shea Haberland, Eva Leoniak, Jillian, Brayden & Kaitlyn Walters.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arluss; her parents, Leota and George Weist; her brother, George L. Weist; and her son, Arluss Eugene Walters.

Services will be held at a later date in La Rue, Ohio.
