Mary Katherine Womer Reeser

MARION: Mary Katherine Womer Reeser, 99, of Marion, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2012 at the Kingston Residence in Marion, Ohio. Mrs. Reeser was born on February 8, 1913 in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania to Robert and Iva Womer. She was the youngest of five children.

She graduated from Philipsburg High School in 1931 and Otterbein College in 1935. On January 1, 1938, she married Dorsey Reeser I in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. Employed by the Osceola Borough School District, she appealed a local decision that prohibited female teachers from being married. In 1940 a decision was handed down by the State Superior Court to repeal this law.

Mrs. Reeser taught at Marion Harding High School and Tri-Rivers Vocational School both located in Marion, Ohio. She was also a member of the Marion Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dorsey Reeser I; two sons, Dorsey "Skip" Reeser II and Daniel Reeser; and brothers, Orion, Stewart, George, and Pat Womer.

Mary is survived by her son, Richard (Lynn) Reeser of San Geronimo, California; six grandchildren, Todd Reeser and Thomas McWhorter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Beth (Andy) Morse of Marysville, Ohio, Amanda (Abbott) Lawrence of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, C. Jordan (Kate) Reeser of Woodacre, California, A. Britton Reeser of Cleveland, Ohio, and Chad (Tracey) Reeser of Marysville, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Luke, Owen, and Max Morse, Anabelle and Lily Reeser, Amos, Estelle, and Clara Lawrence, and Hudson Reeser. She was known as "Gee Gee" by her grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date and she will be laid to rest at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
