Raymond (Ray Jay) Harris

CAPE CORAL, FL: On January 8, 2013 our beloved husband and wonderful father took his leave of this world from the final fight of his life. Raymond (Ray Jay) Harris of Cape Coral, Florida passed away from complications involving a cerebral AVM leaving behind his wife, Catherine, six children and 14 grandchildren, Daughter #1, Stacey and husband Todd Goddard of Marion, OH have two children, Daughter #2, Susan and husband Christopher Huffine of Marion, OH have three children, and daughter #3, Shelley Cox and fiancé Tim Teets of Richwood, Ohio share four children. Raymonds 4th and 5th daughters and Son were his step children and were always loved as his natural children. Carriann and her husband Christopher Lane of Washington State have also have three children while Son, Alex Carlson and his wife Christine of Edmond, OK have two children, and the youngest daughter, Sarah and her husband Bryan DeGroot of Muskegon, MI share the joys of all the family.

Ray was well known for volunteer work within the community he and his wife shared whether it was with Hope Hospice, The Fleet Reserve Association or the church he and his wife attended or just folk that he knew would become better friends once they knew he cared. Further to that he loved to golf and managed the Moose Golf League in Cape Coral for many years.

Ray's working career spanned across several arenas in the course of his life as he spent 29 of his 31 years as a reservist in the US Navy Seabees after having served two active duty tours in Vietnam in the mid 1960's. In his civilian career he worked for 25 years as a Member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 189 in Columbus, OH and retired in 1994. He then topped it all off as a designer and field engineer for Jacobs Engineering. He had a great love for travel and he and his beloved wife did much of it together as they both appreciated life, the people and the beauty that the world around them had to offer, but above all else he adored his combined family, loved Jesus and always maintained the true spirit of the Seabee motto which is "Can Do!"

A celebration of his life will be held 1:00PM Friday, January 11, 2012 at Cape Christian Fellowship, 2110 Chiquita Blvd., Cape Coral, FL with Pastor Wes Furlong officiating. There will be no interment at this time.
