James P. Luton

MARION: Local attorney James P. Luton passed from this life into the arms of his heavenly Father on Friday, May 23, 2014. He is remembered by many in this community as a very kind and helpful man.

Jim graduated from the Ohio State University and then from the Capital University Law School. He was admitted to the Bar November 1976, spent several years with Legal Aid in Columbus and then came to Marion to open the Legal Aid branch office here. After a number of years he began practicing law as a solo practitioner and in association with other attorneys in the area. He was a member of the Marion County Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, Supreme Court of Ohio, and of the board of Marion Metropolitan Housing Authority.

On June 2, 1947 Jim was born to Perry and Tillie Luton who are both deceased. He met and married Sharon Motter Luton on June 13, 1970 while both were in college at OSU. Two children, Rick (Catie) Luton of Marion and Diana (Alex Gowin) Luton of Camp Verde, Arizona were his pride and joy. Three grandchildren followed, Kaitlyn, Tiffiani and Tyler, whom he also loved dearly. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He has also been a dear brother to his sister, Marlene Lambert of Tampa, Florida and to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bud and Sally Motter of Kenton, and a fine uncle to his nieces.

Jim was very involved in his church, and his faith was an essential part of his life and character. He was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God for many years, and more recently became involved in the Cornerstone Alliance Church where his funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th with Pastor Tim Miller presiding.
