Mary Jo Swambaugh

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL: Mary Jo Swambaugh, 77, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away June 22, 2014 at Treasure Coast Hospice, Fort Pierce, FL.

She was born in Angola, Indiana and at an early age she moved with her parents to Marion, Ohio, later settling in Albany, NY. She has been a resident of Port St. Lucie for 18 years, coming from Albany.

She graduated from Marion Harding High School, where she and her twin sister Marcia were co-salutatorians.

Prior to retirement she had been employed by the Niagara-Mohawk Electric Utility from 1959 to 1991 starting as a secretary and was promoted into management working with new employees evaluating and training.

She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and, along with her sister, she volunteered in the church office and also at St. Lucie Medical Center, Port St. Lucie. She enjoyed sports, especially golf and bowling, playing cards and travelling. She also enjoyed helping people in every walk of life in her very caring, loving and generous ways, always with a sense of humor. The "Twins" thing opened many doors to meeting new people. After a long bout with cancer, for several years, her wonderful doctor Dr. Nicholas Iannotti released her to Treasure Coast Hospice who gave her care for almost 7 months and she was able to enjoy life again during that time. Mary Jo wants to thank the Treasure Coast Hospice staff for their excellent care and for the happy ending to her life here on earth. She wants her friends to know she thanks them for their support and many acts of kindness including Dr. Iannotti and his wonderful staff and Marcia's step-family especially Suzanne Grande and Carol Cawley.

She is survived by her twin sister, Marcia Eckert of Port St. Lucie and several cousins in Ohio.
