INDIANAPOLIS, IN: William Allen Curtis died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bill was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on August 8, 1946. He was the oldest child of Betty L. (Kazee) Curtis and Arthur S. Curtis.
Bill graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1964. Shortly after high school, Bill joined the United States Army. He served as a Helicopter Crew Chief in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1968. Bill earned a number of commendations and was very proud of his military service.
After Vietnam, Bill attended The Ohio State University and eventually relocated to Indianapolis where he received a degree from Ivy Tech. Bill spent several years traveling the country living in various locations. During this time, he found his love for music and a passion for playing the guitar. Personal fitness was also very important to Bill. He was involved in competitive body building and martial arts for many years. Bill eventually came "home" to Indianapolis where he lived the remainder of his days. He spent the last 22 years serving Zender Properties as their Maintenance Supervisor. Bill Curtis was a kind and caring person to all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his brothers John (Debbie) Curtis of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Michael D. (Jean) Curtis of Cardington, Ohio, and Michael J. (Diane) Curtis of Waukesha, WI; and many adoring nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Betty Curtis; and his sister, Jan. Bill also leaves behind many great friends including Chris Lindner, Jeff King, Mike Ballod, Truman Vinson, as well as the entire Zender family and staff who he felt privileged to work for and considered them family.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 10:00 - 11:00 at the Gothic Chapel in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208. The funeral will be held directly after the visitation at 11:00. Burial will follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed.
