Leslie "Sandy" Haycook

MILLERSBURG: Sandy Haycook, age 87 of Millersburg died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Majora Lane Care Center. He was born on August 25, 1923 in Cardington to the late Charles and Iva (Marshall) Haycook.

Sandy was a 1943 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School. After high school he went on to serve in the United States Navy during WWII where he was Honorably Discharged from. Sandy owned the Sohio service station in downtown Cardington for 10 years. In 1960 Sandy and Jane moved their family to Millersburg where they operated their general store, "Jane and Sandy's" until 1988

On December 6, 1945 Sandy married the former Jane Boger and she preceded him in death on December 14, 1993.

Sandy is survived by four children, Roger (Mary) Haycook of Holmesville OH, Ronald (Linda) Haycook of San Diego CA, Mark (Judy) Haycook of Alpine CA and Taryn (Robert) Hanna of Millersburg; nine grandchildren, Kathy (Tadd) Kollar, Kelly (Greg) Carson, Jena (Richard) Cooper, Sierra (Andrew) Stephanoff, Jennifer (Isaac) Miller Jason (Penelope) Miller, Kris Haycook, Ariel Hanna and Kayla Haycook; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Sandy was preceded in death by brothers, Maurice, Kenneth, and Cecil Haycook and sisters, Ethel wells, Opal Long, and Betty Breece Shults.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at Peak Cemetery with Pastor David Carrick Officiating.
