Kenneth E. Sharp

MARION: Kenneth E. Sharp died at hs home on Saturday February 23rd, surrounded by his family.

Born in Mason City Iowa (inspiration for Merdith Wilson's musical "The Music Man") in 1932, Kenneth graduated from Mason City High School in 1950. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and, after being honorably discharged, attended Mason City Junior College and the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958.

He married Suzanne Heizer in 1957 and moved his family to Marion Ohio in 1964. He worked for the Employment Bureau of the State of Ohio in various capacities for 28 years and retired from there. He loved music and art, and was active with the Marion Art Club during his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne (Hetzer) Sharp; his sister, Evelyn (Sharp) Russell; his three children, Lisa A. (Russ) Ramey, Steven K. (Shasta) Sharp, and Saralyn Sharp; and his seven grandchildren, Claire K. Ramey, Megan E. Ramey, Virginia E. Ramey, Ian C. Ramey, Andrea N. Ramey, Madison E. Sharp and Emily S. Sharp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera (Briggs) Sharp, and his brother Verlyn Sharp.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations to the Hospice of Marion General Hospital, or Crosswood United Methodist Church.

There will be a celebration of his life on March 9th at 1:00pm at Crosswood United Methodist Church, 1551 Richland Road.
