MARION: Robert Eugene Streng age 72, devoted husband, father and friend went to be with Our Lord January 27, 2014 after his long courageous battle with cancer and heart disease.

Bob was born October 18, 1941 to the late Paul J. and Iva L. Streng. He was a 1959 graduate of Marion Harding High School where he met his wife Clara of 48 years. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from July 4, 1959 to December 17, 1959 then furthered his military career by joining the Air Force on January 5, 1965 until honorably discharged as a Staff Sargeant on October 2, 1968.

Bob married his high school sweetheart Clara Mae Osborne on September 5, 1965 and she survives; also leaving behind two daughters, Robin (Robert) Hampton and Ronda (Bruce) Thrasher; and nine grandchildren, Robert III, Baili and Enoch Hampton and John, Cameron, Taylor, Brennan, Abigail and Kylie Thrasher; he also leaves behind three sisters-in-law, Mary, Charlie and Jenny; and two brothers-in-law, Manuel and Nug and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Bob had a long career as a condutor/brakeman on Erie, Conrail and CSX railways. He was a member of American Legion #162, VFW # 7201 and Moose Lodge #889. For all who knew Bob knew his passion for golf. He lived to be on the Whetstone Golf Cource rain or shine. He recorded his 1st hole in one June 12, 2009 and his next ace October 14, 2010. Bob loved spending time with his wife and friends on countless trips to Las Vegas and several cruises. Bob and Clara loved spending time together doing what they loved best, having fun at the casinos. Bob lived life to the fullest everyday that God gave him and was a fighter to the end.

The family wishes to celebrate his life with a brief Memorial Service Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11 AM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Parker officiating. Military Honors will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:45 AM at the funeral home. There will be a meal for family and friends at the American Legion #162 following the service.
