JEFFERSON — Surrounded by friends and family, Mr. Bill Corpier of Woodlawn, Texas, passed from his earthly home and into the presence of the Lord, April 15, 2013.
He was born February 7, 1927, in the Blackjack community of Woodlawn, Texas, to John Wilson Corpier and Mable Claire Dollar. Bill attended schools in Woodlawn and Marshall. He was a member of Pope City Baptist Church, a former member of the Marshall Masonic Lodge and an U.S. Army
and U.S. Air Force
veteran of World War II
Drafted after high school, Bill served in the Army for several years as World War II was ending. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the Air Force several years later. While stationed in Okinawa, he met the love of his life, Hatsuko "Michiyo" Take. They were married on January 2, 1951.
Following his military service, he earned a BSME degree from the University of Okinawa. He continued his postgraduate work at the University of California at Berkeley and Texas A&M University
. As a mechanical engineer, he worked for several construction and oil companies. His work often took him overseas to places such as Guam, American Samoa, British Columbia, Thailand, Venezuela and Pakistan.
After returning to the states, Bill worked as an independent truck driver for several years and owner of Ingram's Radiator in Jefferson before retiring.
In his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with people and family, farming, fishing, reading, country and western music and was an avid player of the domino game 42 and the computer version of Solitaire. He loved all animals, particularly his dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hatsuko "Michi" Corpier of Woodlawn; children, Bill Corpier II and wife, Suzanne, of Jefferson, Yvonne McCarty and husband, Bob, of Marshall, Lei Lani Rieck and husband, Dennis, of Vista, California, and Eddy Corpier and wife, Karen, of Jefferson; his sisters, Kathryn "Kay" Williams of Canyon Lake, Texas, Geneva Howe of Fort Worth, Glenda Corpier of Lincoln, California, Reba Wood and husband, Wayne, of Orange Park, Florida, and Betty Davis of Marshall; his grandchildren, Rusty McCarty of Spring, Texas, Shane Corpier of Jacksonville, N.C., Rachel George and husband, Josh, of Woodlawn, Brittany Allen and husband, TJ, of Jefferson, Candis Corpier of Jefferson, Brandt Rieck and wife, Nicole, of Vista, California, and Cameron Corpier of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Jacob George and Rylin Allen; numerous nieces and nephews; and his little dog, Skoochi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Doyle Edward, John Wilson, Robert Smallwood and Huey Pierce Corpier.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, April 18, 2013, at Pope City Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Ratcliff officiating. Interment will follow in Pope City Cemetery under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home of Jefferson.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Roger Corpier, Charlie Mayo, Jay Abel, Harry Thornton, Josh George and Jimmy Hordern.
