MARSHALL — Graveside service for Robert W. Metzger, 86, of Pantego, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at Andrews Cemetery in Karnack, Texas, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Father John Himes of Trinity Episcopal Church of Marshall, Texas, will officiate.
Mr. Metzger died August 19, 2013, in Arlington, Texas. He was born November 5, 1926, in Rochester, New York, to Walter A. and Lorna Stone Metzger.
Mr. Metzger grew up in Rochester and graduated from Madison High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Army
Air Force and was discharged in 1945. After his discharge, he attended the University of Michigan
and graduated in 1949 with degrees in aeronautical engineering and mathematics.
In 1977, he and Peggy Summers were married. They met at Bell Helicopter Co., where they were both employed. In 1985, they both retired and moved to Caddo Lake, the childhood home of Peggy Summers. They lived at Caddo for 14 years before moving to Marshall, Texas. In 2010, they moved to Pantego, Texas, to be close to their daughters.
After retirement, Mr. Metzger pursued his lifelong interest in art and was active in the Marshall art community. He was a member of the Hoover Watercolor Society and the Southwest Watercolor Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lorna, and first wife, Margaret.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Metzger of Pantego, Texas; children and their spouses, David and Marie Metzger of Shanghai, China, Roberta Metzger of Euless, Texas, Timothy and Nancy Creighton of Boulder, Colorado, and Denise and Sene Ale of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Metzger, Stephanie Buck, Andy and Kate Creighton, Lillian Creighton, Sene Ale Jr. and Dennis and Ryan Ale; and great-grandson, Dominik Ale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church of Marshall or the
