John G. Knutson, 95 of Hewitt died on Saturday morning, December 8, 2012 at his home with his wife, Lavon and nephew Rodney and Wanda at his side.

Funeral services will be 3pm Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt with Pastor Dean Pingel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield.

Visitations will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt from 1pm Thursday until time of service.

Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

John was born on February 25, 1917 to Thomas and Esther (Christiansen) Knutson in the town of Arpin, Wood County. He was the youngest of seven children and attended Woodland Echo School.

He worked in Minneapolis and Chicago before enlisting in the United States Army on September 28, 1942 along with his brother Elmer. They both were together the whole time of service, being in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharge on December 12, 1945.

He sang at the U.S.O. show while in service before his discharge and returning to Arpin.

He had his own radio program on WDLB for which he sang for the opening of the station on January 31, 1944. John's band, The Sundowners sang for Wisconsin State Fair, area night clubs, funerals, nursing homes and recorded three cassette tapes. They spent 28 winters in Texas where he also had a band. In 1990 he sang at the Hodag County Music Festival in Rhinelander.

He was united in marriage to Lavon M. Wunrow on June 5, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in

Hewitt, she survives.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt.

We will remember John forever because of who he is and what he has been to us and to so many others. The legacy of his love will continue to many generations ~ evident that 4 generations will be present tomorrow for the funeral. His music will continue as well.
