Agnes A. LaBarge, 87, Arpin, died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 surrounded by family at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper, with Rev. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Loren Smith, Jr., Jeffery Smith, Kelly LaBarge, Richard Luebke, Jr. Russell Luebke and Christopher LaBarge. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Julie LaBarge, Brenda Smith, Kristine Pfeifer, Michelle LaBarge, Elizabeth Guldan, Gretchen Smith, Belinda Smith, Jackie Luebke and Julia Luebke. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville, and on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper. A rosary service will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
Agnes was born on November 16, 1925 in Spokesville, Wisconsin to William and Martha (Lemke) Wehrman. She attended Maple Center School in the Town of Beaver and after 8th grade did domestic work. She married Louis LaBarge on January 18, 1943 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. He died on May 11, 2001. Agnes and Louis farmed in Vesper until 1965 when they purchased and operated Louie and Aggie's Bar in Arpin until they retired. Agnes was one of the founding members and very active in the Arpin Advancement Association and was treasurer for 30 years. She was a member and involved with the Arpin Lions Club and St. James Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women. After retirement, Agnes continued working for her son, Raymond in his business and with the Arpin Advancement Association. One of her hobbies included creating some of the most beautiful needlework ever seen.
Mrs. LaBarge is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters, Joseph (Kathleen) LaBarge of Joliet, IL, Michael (Diane) LaBarge of Marshfield, Raymond (Judith Jensen) LaBarge and William (Josie) LaBarge, all of Arpin, Carole Walsh of Paris, TN, and Irene Luebke of Johnson Creek. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly LaBarge and Julie LaBarge, both of Chicago, Loren (Gretchen) Smith, Jr. of Burlington, and Brenda Smith and Jeffery (Belinda) Smith of Kenosha, Michelle LaBarge of Marshfield, Elizabeth (Andrew) Guldan of Sherry, Christopher LaBarge of Arpin, Richard (Jackie) Luebke, Jr., Kristine Pfeifer, and Russell (Julia) Luebke, all of Fort Atkinson and by 4 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by brothers, Dale (Joanne) Wehrman of Greenfield, Victor (Mary) Wehrman of Jamestown, TN and sisters, Elaine Gabrovic of Conrath and Alice (Gerald) Kobiske of Loyal.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Raymond L. Smith, sons-in-law, Allen Walsh and Richard Luebke, and brothers, Donald, Herbert, Raymond, Allen, Wilfred and Harvey Wehrman and sisters, Delores Wehrman and Yvonne Gallagher.
The family would like to thank the nurses in Palliative Care for their wonderful care and kindness to mom and our family. Also thanks for the wonderful care that she received at Stoney River Assisted Living.
Agnes will be remembered by her family and friends for her love, kindness, and generosity.
