Arthur Gustafsons journey through life ended on Sunday November 4, 2012. He was 94 years old.
Art was born January 6, 1918 to Marie Fyhr Gustafson and Oscar Gustafson in Chicago. He married Anne Gizelle Plaza on October 12, 1941. They raised 4 children together - James, Linda, Bruce, and Jerry. Anne and Art were happily married for 35 years, but she preceded him in death in 1977. During World War II
he served in the US Navy
from 1942 - 1945. After that he worked in various automotive companies as a parts manager and eventually owned his own foreign car service. After moving to Libertyville, Illinois in about 1972 he went to work for the postal service and loved his route. Wonderful friendships were formed with their lively neighbors. Art was known as a person you could count on to help with whatever you needed. A jack of all trades, he especially loved tinkering with cars. A beer and a good conversation were always welcome. His was a musical family and he was a wonderful singer and could play the ukulele, mandolin, guitar and harmonica. He sang some very funny songs and loved to dance. Art married Frances Jenkins in 1980. Frans six children - Fran, Jerry, Steve, David, Ellie and Cathy and their families became a new and lovely part of the family as Art became grandfather to all the kids in thenext generation. Art and Fran had 25 wonderful years together. They travelled, visiting relatives and friends. They enjoyed the company of their neighbors and friends, often getting together for cards, games, food and fun. These wonderful neighbors and all the other people they met along the way enriched their lives tremendously.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne, sister, Signe, wife, Frances, many brothers in law and sisters in law. Mr.Gustafson is lovingly survived by his children James (Mary), Linda (Lee Nafziger) of Marshfield, Bruce (Anne Mariette), and Jerry (Linda). He is further survived by step children Fran, Jerry (Kim), Steve (Karen), David (Maryann) Ellie (Tim) and Cathy. He has many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is further survived by relatives in Sweden and the United States, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as wonderful friends and neighbors.
After Frans passing in 2006, Art has lived in Marshfield, Wisconsin where people who have come to know him have loved him too. Though dementia dimmed his memories, his sense of humor and spirit remained. He was a honey of a gentleman and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services in Libertyville, Illinois at Burnett Dane Funeral Home will include visitation on Friday, November 16 and his funeral on Saturday, November 17. No services will be held in Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family in Marshfield.
