Voll, Jr., Carl Frederick
Carl Frederick Voll, Jr., age 91, of Marshfield, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. The Rev. Bob Lesher will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service Monday at the church. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday and Military Honors will be presented after the service all at the church.
Carl was born February 1, 1922 in Utica, NY, the son of Carl Frederick, Sr. and Caroline (Kerl) Voll. He graduated from the Utica Free Academy in June 1940. After high school, Carl served as a Carpenter's apprentice until he entered the military.
Carl served in the U.S. Army
during World War II
from Oct. 10, 1942 until Nov. 16, 1945. He was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ and served in Germany as a Technical Sargent. Carl was awarded the Bronze Star
for valor. He was honorably discharged.
On his return from the Military, Carl continued in the carpentry trade until 1946, when he entered Syracuse State University of New York to study Forestry. Carl received a B.S. Degree in Forestry in June 1950.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor L. Lockwood on November 4, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Utica, NY.
After college, Carl worked for the State of New York as a Forest Ranger, stationed in Lowville, NY. Later, he joined Owens-Illinois Forest Products and moved to Newport, VT. Roddis eventually bought Owen-Illinois and Carl was transferred to Marshfield, WI with his family. He continued working at Roddis until it was bought out by Weyerhauser Corp. Carl continued on at Weyerhauser as a Purchasing Agent until he had a major stroke in 1967. After the stroke, he continued working until 1971.
Carl was a Master Mason and member of the Marshfield Evergreen Lodge #223 where he was a member over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor; his son, Carl F. Voll III of Marshfield; a grandson, Eric W. Voll, Bangkok, Thailand. He is further survived by a brother, Robert K. (Nancy) Voll, Morris Plains, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Paine.
