Donald Heiting(1921 - 2012)

Heiting, Donald W.

Donald William Heiting, age 91, of Marshfield, died Monday, December 24, 2012, under the compassionate care of House of the Dove hospice facility in Marshfield, after a battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield. Fr. Eric Berns and family friend Fr. James Logan will officiate. A private burial will be held in the Corpus Christi Cemetery in the town of Bakerville. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the Church on Saturday. Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald was born on June 26, 1921 in Marshfield, the son of William and Rose (Bill) Heiting.

He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. He proudly served his country during WWII. On April 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Loretta Schumacher.

Donald was a veteran of World War II, serving as an infantryman in the Pacific. Upon returning home from the war he resumed employment at Central State Bank (now BMO Harris Bank) in downtown Marshfield, where he worked for 42 years, retiring as vice president. Upon retirement, he and Loretta moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they lived for 16 years before returning to Marshfield in 2002.

He will be remembered as a kind and humble man, a loyal friend and an avid Packers fan, who cherished family get-togethers and visits by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He also enjoyed traveling: his most recent trip was as an honoree of a Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington, DC, with fellow veterans, at age 90. Escorted by his son Chuck, he enjoyed the event immensely, and he was tickled that his military service also was memorialized by his great-granddaughter, Emily Heiting, for a school project.

Donald was a Charter Member of Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church; as well as, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Marshfield Elks Club.

Donald is lovingly survived by his wife, Loretta; children: Bill (Sue) Heiting, Chuck (Juline) Heiting, and Gary (Jo Ellen) Heiting; grandchildren: Amy Gust-Heiting, Brad (Kelly) Heiting, Eric (Jodi) Heiting, Nikki (Aaron) Gripentrog, and Carey (Brad) Strobel; as well as, great-grandchildren: Kaylee Heiting, Emily Heiting, Brandon Heiting, Taylor Heiting, Branson Heiting, Allie Gripentrog, Mason Gripentrog, Adyn Gripentrog, Nevyn Gripentrog, Bryce Strobel, and Ian Strobel. Don is further survived by two sisters Beatrice Hasenohrl and Joan (Jim) Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose; as well as two brothers Bud Heiting and Dick Heiting.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are encouraged to do so to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield or the Ministry Heath Care House of the Dove in Marshfield. Donald's family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Eric Berns and Fr. James Logan, for their compassion and spiritual guidance during this difficult time; as well as Dr. William Hocking and the caregivers at Ministry Home Care Hospice and the House of the Dove.
