On Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:15 am, Dorothy Wagner passed away peacefully with family members by her side at Serenity House, a hospice facility in Sun City West, AZ after a lengthy struggle due to complications following cardiac surgery in January.
She was born in Waukegan, IL on March 1, 1935 to John and Lily (Mattila) Wilson, graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1952, and married A. Dean Hawks on May 23, 1953. They had four children: Deanna, Darrell, Donna and Douglas, whom they raised in Marshfield, WI. She was widowed in March of 1995; then in October 1997 was married to George W. Wagner of Minnesota. They resided for the past several years in Sun City, AZ.
In the early years Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother, involved in Camp Fire Girls as den mother, PTA and her church (Faith Lutheran of Marshfield). Later she rejoined the work force, most of which was as an administrative assistant at the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation of Marshfield Clinic where she worked until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband Dean, brother Fred and his wife Dawn, brother-in-law Bob Hawks, nephew Radley Hawks, and great-grandchildren Riley and Karsen Prock.
Surviving family members include: husband George; sister Norma (Harold) Kalepp of Abbotsford, WI; former in-laws Dorothy "Dottie" (Robert) Hawks of Sun City, AZ, Shirley (Bill) Schreffler of Stanley, WI, Dave (Adele) Hawks of Las Vegas, NV, Rod Hawks of Curtiss, WI, Linda (Larry) Lundt of Clintonville, WI; children Deanna (John) Schilling of Fall Creek, WI, Darrell (Marie) Hawks of Hewitt, WI, Donna Thompson of Marshfield, WI, Douglas (Marla) Hawks of Marshfield WI, grandchildren Dana, Kelly, Amy, Jennifer, Stacy, Nathaniel, Alison, Alyssa, Matthew, Lacey, Nolan, Sonja and Gavin, 7 great-grandchildren, one aunt Elsie Schultz, along with innumerable cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Two memorial services are being held to celebrate Dorothy's life; the first being at American Lutheran Church of Sun City, AZ on Monday, March 4th at 1:30 pm; the second on Saturday, March 9th at 2:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Marshfield service, also at Rembs.
