George T. Sternweis, 84 of Marshfield passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home under the care of Ministry Home Hospice.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 am Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Visitations will be on Monday, November 12th from 4-8pm at the Rembs Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:30 am until service times. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 6:30pm Monday at Rembs Funeral Home followed by a parish prayer service at 8pm.

George was born on August 1, 1928 in the town of Spencer, Marathon County to George and Mary (Klein) Sternweis.

He was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Griesbach on August 23, 1950 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Rozellville. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2000.

George was a farmer until June of 1959. He worked for Maurer's Heating and Air Conditioning until 1974 then for House of Heating until his retirement in July 1994. George helped out part-time at House of Heating for several years.

He kept himself busy with gardening, lawns and many odd jobs including driver for funerals at Rembs Funeral Home. He could fix just about anything. He was fond of old time music and playing cards.

George's life was enriched by many good friends and a wonderful family. He loved visits with his children and grandchildren. Besides Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.

George was a man of strong will, faith and character with a warm loving heart. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

George is survived by his wife Lorraine, children, Ken Sternweis of Miami Beach, FL, David (Debbie) Sternweis of Clovis, CA, Julie (Dave) Wilken of Uncasville, CT, Mark (Shelli) Sternweis of Marsfhfield and Lisa (Edgar) Torres of Port Edwards; grandchildren Kristen, Daniel, Casey and Andrew Sternweis, Lorena and Marcelo Torres. He is further survived by a brother Al (Arlene) Sternweis of Marshfield and a sister Norma Justman of Sun City, AZ; sister in-law Margaret Sternweis of Marshfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Karen, three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be designated to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church or Opportunity Development Center in Marshfield.
