Wenzel, Gerald "Jerry"
Gerald "Jerry" H. Wenzel, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Tomah Veterans Home Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin. Jerry was born on March 29, 1930 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church (207 S Cherry Ave.) in Marshfield. Rev Bob Lesher will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church on Thursday. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery. The Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jerry served as a field wireman with the rank of Sergeant in the 90th Field Artillery Battalion, in the 25th Infantry Division in the Korean War
. He earned several medals including the Esprit De Corps in Korea, Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars
, the United Nations Service Medal and two Overseas Bars.
As a child, Jerry learned a love of mechanics from his dad, Henry. Jerry worked at the Farmers' Co-op in Marshfield, H. Ebbe Company, Stratford Implement and Roehl Trucking as a diesel mechanic. He also taught night school at Mid-State Technical College. He was well known for his mechanical skills and his love of tractor and steam shows. He was often called upon to help neighbors and friends.
Gerald is survived by a sister: Carol (Wenzel) Nelson; 2 brothers: Ronald Wenzel and Glenn (Carol) Wenzel; 5 nieces and 6 Nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Frieda Wenzel; a brother: Rodney Wenzel and a sister: Joann (Wenzel) Lange.
