Kenneth (Ken) LeMoine, 87, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI.
Ken was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Richland Center, WI, to Hallie and Josie (Young) LeMoine. Ken was the starting quarterback on the record setting Baraboo High School football team that remained unscored upon and undefeated throughout the entire season. This record still stands today. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1942 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy
for four years. Ken was a medic on the U.S.S. Wilkes Barre, which was stationed in the Pacific in World War II
. Ken married Patsy Ruth Schoenmann on July 23, 1946, in Spring Green, WI.
Ken held various jobs prior to moving to Marshfield, WI, in 1958, where he opened LeMoine's Shoes. His store was fondly remembered for its talking mynah bird, "Doc," as well as for Ken's friendly service and great sense of humor. He also became a part owner of clothing stores Dads and Lads and Country Miss.
Throughout his years in the shoe business, Ken actively served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Marshfield Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge
665, and the American Legion Post 54. He also served as the president of the Marshfield Dance Club. Ken was an avid hunter, fisherman, and card player. In April of 2011 he had participated in the "Never Forgotten Honor Flight"
Due to health issues, Ken retired in 1974, and moved to LaValle, WI, where he and Pat enjoyed their home on Lake Redstone. Pat unexpectedly passed away in 1988. Ken then married Carole Olson on October 3, 1992, and returned to live the rest of his retirement years in Marshfield.
He is lovingly survived by his beloved wife, Carole, Marshfield, WI: his sons Lee (Barb) LeMoine, Land O' Lakes, WI; Kim (Phyllis) LeMoine, Mosinee, WI, and Gary (Robin) LeMoine, Sugar Camp, WI; step-children Mike (Mary) Olson, Hustisford, WI; Terri (Dan) Lenz, Neillsville, WI; and Kathy Petrovic, Miami, FL. Ken is also survived by 7 grandchildren - Laura (John) Magstadt, Rhinelander, WI; Todd (Alexa) LeMoine, San Diego, CA; Jill (John) Koran, Marshfield, WI; Elizabeth LeMoine, Woodbury, MN; Elyse LeMoine, Wausau, WI; Keith LeMoine, Woodbury, MN, and Anna LeMoine, Rhinelander, WI; and 5 step-grandchildren - Amy (Scott) Gundrum, Keewaskum, WI: Jessica (Ryan) Braatz, Spring, TX: Chris Olson, Milwaukee, WI; Casey (Kyle) Swensen, Marshfield, WI; and Jake Lenz, Stevens Point, WI. Ken is also survived by13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister, as well as his first wife, Pat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield, WI, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Kevin Buchanan will officiate and music will be provided by the Heart of Wisconsin Chorus Sweet Adelines. The family will greet relatives and friends at Rembs Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6th and at First Presbyterian Church an hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established to benefit the House of the Dove in Marshfield where Ken received excellent care and to Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for Kayla Jane LeMoine, Ken's great-granddaughter who recently received a new heart.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring employees of DaVita Dialysis, the phenomenal physicians and staff who cared for Ken at the Marshfield Clinic and St. Joseph's Hospital, and the compassionate staff at the House of the Dove.
