Mark was born September 17, 1974 in LaGrange, IL, the son of Bruce and Pamela (Engle) Hayry. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1993 and went on to earn his BS in Electrical Engineering and completed his ROTC training from Marquette University. Mark went on to earn his Masters in Military Science and MBA from Fort Leavenworth, KS. On July 5, 2002 Mark was united in marriage to Acie Johnson. Major Hayry was an officer in the United States Army and was most recently stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma as a member of the 3-13 FA. He served 2 combat tours in Iraq and returned home from duty from Abu Dhabi, UAE on September 3, 2013.
He was an avid outdoors-man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and riding his motor cycle. He took special pride in his children and loved coaching their soccer team and leading them in scouting. Those that knew him best will miss his warm spirit coupled with his sharp sense of humor and his love of family. He was an outstanding person. He loved life. He was an honest, genuine, and loyal friend and father.
Mark is survived by his wife: Acie and his children: Alexis and Madox Hayry all of Elgin, OK; also his parents: Bruce and Pamela (Engle) Hayry of Spencer. He is further survived by his siblings: Jeffery Hayry of Raeford, NC; Julie (Grant) Argall of Appleton, WI; and Gregory (Lisa) Hayry of White Fish Bay, WI; as well as his paternal grandmother: Viola Laine of Sun City, AZ. Some called him father. Some called him son. Some called him brother. Some called him friend. He was a superhero to so many. He will truly be missed.
His maternal grandparents: Harry and Pearl Engle; and paternal grandfather Leslie Hayry all preceded Mark in death.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are encouraged to do so to Mark's family to establish a memorial for the Wounded Warrior Project.
A memorial service will also be held 1:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Frontier Chapel (4121 Thomas St.) Fort Sill, OK. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
