Melvin "Coney" Joosten, age 89, formerly of 5182 Reddin Road, Rudolph, WI died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Harmony House in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Funeral Services are 12:00 Noon Monday, January 28, 2013 at St. Philip's Catholic Church, Rudolph, WI. Rev. Rolando Onden will officiate. Burial in All Souls Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Philip's Church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
Melvin was born March 24, 1923 in Rudolph, WI to Martin and Anna (Stelzer) Joosten. He married Eleanor Ubinger on August 5, 1953 in Rudolph, WI. She died Dec. 19, 1997. Melvin was employed at the Biron Division of Consolidated Papers Inc. as an oiler for over 40 years.
Melvin served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He served in Northern France and Central Europe where he earned the Victory Medal, 3 Bronze Stars
and 4 Overseas Service Bars. Melvin was a member of American Legion Post #485 of Rudolph, WI and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He loved playing cards, gardening, going to the casino and was an avid sports fan, especially the NBA.
Melvin is survived by two sons, Doug (Noreen Adams) Joosten of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Dale Joosten of Rudolph, WI; daughter, D'Ann (Alan) Breit of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two grandchildren, Nathan (Val) Breit of Lake Mills, WI and Jena Breit, serving in the Air Force in Arizona, two brothers, Donald Joosten of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Jesse (Marge) Joosten of Rudolph, WI, one sister, Dorothy Moscicki of California and sisters in law, Mary Ann Joosten and Ginny Joosten both of Rudolph, WI.
Melvin is also survived by brother in laws, Larry Ubinger of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Ronald (Linda) Ubinger of Marshfield, WI and Darold Ubinger of Vesper, WI; sister in law, Dorothy Ubinger of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Nancy Ubinger of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Jean Langer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and JoAnn (Toby) Keen of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, brothers, Raymond, Warren and Gene; brother in laws, Howard (Edith) Ubinger, Lavern Ubinger, Kenneth Ubinger and Chuck Langer and sister in law, Karen Ubinger.
