Alvin L. Stauner Sr., 87, Medford, died on Sunday, Sept. 30 peacefully at his home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at Community United Church of Christ in Medford, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Burial will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery in Medford, where full military honors will be performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Pallbearers are Dan Stauner, Ami and Chris Jaskie, Kimberly Foemmel, Jesse Staab, Adam and Lacie Zinthefer and Alex Tacke.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Alvin Stauner was born on July 31, 1925 in the Town of Medford to the late Joseph and Susan (Kellner) Stauner. He attended Medford parochial schools. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1946 during World War II.
On October 11, 1947 in Medford, he married Lillian W. Haufe, who survives. He worked at Hurd Millwork for 42 years and Medford Oil Company for 20 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Community United Church of Christ where he served as past council member. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, especially fly fishing, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Lillian of almost 65 years of marital happiness, survivors include two sons, Alvin (Sandy) Jr. and James (Carol), both of Marshfield; two sisters, Catherine Dassow and Agnes (Ray) Carstensen, both of Medford; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye, in infancy; five brothers, Joe, John, Larry, Herbert and Albert; and four sisters, Florence Broeske, Minnie Reynolds, Christie Gilles and Mary Dassow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
