Dorothy J. Nikolai, 85 of Marshfield died Saturday, March 16, 2013 peacefully at Wells Nature View on Apple Avenue under the care of Ministry Home Hospice Care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Sam Martin officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

Visitations will be 4-7:30pm Friday, March 22nd at Rembs Funeral Home and again on Saturday at the church from 9am until time of services. There will be a Parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary service at 4pm Friday at Rembs Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on September 25, 1927 in Hewitt to Reinhold and Anna (Michaelbeck) Hornick.

She was united in marriage to Leo E. Nikolai, Jr. on May 26, 1948 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt. Leo sadly died on March 20, 1990.

She worked as a nurse's aid at St. Joseph's Hospital while raising her seven children. As the younger one grew up, she worked part time at Johnson Hills Department Store.

Dorothy was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church, Parish Council of Catholic Women Society and American Legion Auxiliary of Marshfield.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Jean (Clifford) Eggett of Tomahawk, Elizabeth Nikolai of Winneconne, Karen (Harry) Gordee of Eau Claire, Kristine (Patrick) Martin of Forest Lake, MN, Joyce (Gregory) Haupt of Auburndale, James (Pam) Nikolai and John (Ann) Nikolai both of Marshfield; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She is further survived by a brother Andrew "Boots" (Elaine) Hornick of Marshfield, two sisters, Edna (James) Laing of Reeseville and Mary Ann (Richard) Heinzen of Cedarburg; brother-in-law Ben Merkel of Fond du Lac and a sister-in-law Noreen Zellner of Milladore.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leo, two sisters, Lucille Zellner and Katherine Merkel.
