Evelyn L. Kurtz, 92, Pittsville, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Bethel Center in Arpin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville, with Rev. Tom Hahn officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pittsville, and serving as pallbearers will be Paul Hoppe, Sr., James L. Kurtz, Teresa Pongratz, Dorie Lueck, Brad Lueck, Paul Hoppe, Jr., and Eric Pongratz. The visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Evelyn was born on December 31, 1919 in the Town of Cary, Wood County. She was united in marriage to James W. Kurtz on November 9, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2008. James died on October 25, 2011.

After their marriage the Kurtz's lived in South Dakota and in 1947 returned to Wisconsin where they farmed in the Town of McMillan, Marathon County. Evelyn had been a homemaker and also worked seasonally at a cranberry marsh. They later moved to the Town of Wood. In 2005 they moved to the Woodco Apartments in Pittsville and together to the Bethel Center in 2010.

They enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, auctions and garage sales. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, the Cary Ladies Aid and homemakers club and the Pittsville Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her children, Lynford Kurtz of Pittsville, and Arlene (Robert) Hoppe and David Kurtz, all of Marshfield. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. She is further survived by a brother, Richard Markee of Bellflower, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, and 2 brothers.
