Harold "Jojo" Schommer, age 96, of Colby, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Colby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Dan Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
Harold was born January 6, 1916 to Bernard and Mary (Guelff) Schommer in Colby. Harold's mother passed away when he was at a young age and he was raised in the Town of Hull by his father and step-mother, Bertha (Simion) Schommer. Harold received his education from Pleasant Hill School and St. Mary's Catholic School. He farmed in the Town of Hull in Marathon County until his retirement in 1978. He then worked various jobs. Harold was joined in marriage to Janice Rowan on July 24, 1984 in Appleton. He enjoyed writing poetry and outdoors sports such as fishing, hunting, baseball, and football.
Harold was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Foresters, and the Colby Lions Club.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice, his sister, Valarian (Harry) Zilisch, and his brother, Norbert (Gertrude) Schommer.
