Paul Anton Theurer, 95, Stratford, died on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at his home in the Town of Day, Marathon County, under the tender care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. Rev. John Robert Alphonse and Rev. Eric Berns will officiate and music will be provided by St. Joseph's Resurrection Choir. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford and on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
Paul was born on May 20, 1917 in the Town of Day, Marathon County, to John and Elizabeth (Scharfin) Theurer and was educated at St. Andrew's Catholic School, Rozellville. As a young man he worked for various farmers and as a carpenter. In 1938 he started his cheesmaking career.
On October 28, 1942 he married Agnes Steines at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. In 1944 they purchased the Brookside Cheese Factory at Stratford which he operated until his retirement in 1981. After retirement he and his wife traveled extensively. He continued to enjoy woodworking building furniture.
They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 28, 2012 with family and friends.
Paul was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799, the Wisconsin Cheese makers Association, and was awarded a life membership in the Central Wisconsin Cheese makers and Butter Makers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes and their children, Patricia (Charles) Hastreiter, James (Cookie) Theurer, all of Marshfield, Robert (Rose) Theurer of Stratford, Rose (Dan) Leffel of Fenwood, Jeffrey Theurer of Minneapolis, Theresa Theurer of Stratford, Annette (George) Lescynski, Jean (Brian) Wegner, all of Marshfield, Karen (Les) Pinkerton of Custer, SD, and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda of Marshfield. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is further survived by 2 sisters, Martha Rauscher of Marshfield and Ludwina Sherman of Tuscon, AZ and a sister-in-law, Marie Theurer of Tuscon, AZ.
In eternity he will join his parents, a daughter, Mary "Betsy", a son, John, sons-in-law, Roger Hoefs and Dave Weiler, brothers and sisters, Valentine, Florian (Cecelia), Rudy, Roman (Florence), Sister Catherine Theurer, Hedy (Lloyd) Schultz, Cliff Rauscher and John Sherman.
