Richard L. Heeg
Age 88 of 2001 Riverview Ave. Stevens Point, passed on to eternal life on Thursday December 20, 2012 surrounded by family at St. Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point. He was born April 28, 1924 in Auburndale, WI Son of the late William & Margaret (Kohlbeck) Heeg. He entered the US Navy on Jan. 20, 1943 in Milw. He served as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He received the Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific medal with 2 Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 star, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 12, 1946 at Great Lakes, IL. His marriage to Elaine N. Hotchkiss took place on Feb. 18, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa. The couple lived in Nekoosa, Berlin and most of their married life in Pittsville where they raised their family. They have resided in Stevens Point for over 10 years. His wife Elaine died March 10, 2010.
He was employed for Brooks Fur Farm in Berlin, WI and at the age of 26 he moved to Pittsville as manager of Pittsville Fur Foods. He remained involved in the fur industry until his retirement. Richard served as Alderman and then Mayor of Pittsville. In 1955 he was a charter member of the Pittsville Lions and also founding member of the Pittsville American Legion. Richard enjoyed family get togethers, camping, music, dancing, hunting with his sons and grandsons and attending family sporting events. Instead of flowers a memorial in his name will be established at a later date.
Survivors include 5 children: Conrad (Pamela Kolenz) Heeg of Three Lakes, Pamela (Roger Walker deceased) (Thomas) Jensen of Stevens Point, John Heeg of Stevens Point, Gregory (Linda Glenn) Heeg of Edgar & Jeffrey (Pamela Akkerman) of Wisconsin Rapids. 16 Grandchildren, 14 Great grandchildren. 1 Brother William Jr. (Marilyn) Heeg of Nekoosa.
Preceded in death by one infant sister: Margie, Four sisters: Lillian Campbell, Jean Smith, Maryn Pagels & Betty Bush. One brother Bob Heeg.
Funeral Mass 10:00 am Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rev. Jerzy Rebacz Officiating. Entombment in Forest Hill cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation from 5 to 8 pm Friday at Pisarski Community Funeral Home at 2911 Plover Road, Plover. Also from 9:00 am until the time of services Saturday morning at the Church. Richard held a deep faith in God and a deep pride in the American Flag and his Family.
