Jean Ruth Fritz, Wisconsin Rapids, born August 10, 1927 to George and Alma (Drackley) Kiesling in Marshfield, WI, the 2nd of 4 daughters, passed away February 22, 2014. She was 86.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. John Grohs will officiate. Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Richfield Cemetery, Town of Richfield, WI.
Jean grew up on a farm south of Marshfield, WI and attended Marshfield Senior High, graduating in 1945. She received her Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Jean married Arnold Andrew Fritz August 6, 1949. He passed away April 18, 2011.
Jean taught for 6 years in 1 room schools before moving on to the Port Edwards School District. She was a gifted and innovative educator who taught for 42 years, retiring in 1990. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, participating in numerous groups and committees. Jean was also a member of Wisconsin Rapids Retired Teachers, past president of Heart of Wisconsin Genealogy Society and a lifetime member of the Adams County Historical Society. She taught life story writing classes since the late 1990's at the Lowell Center in Wisconsin Rapids and was instrumental in getting the classes' stories complied into books and published. Jean was also very active at Historic Point Basse where she portrayed the 1st teacher assigned to the Point Basse schoolhouse, Anna Finley, during festivals and group tours.
Jean was an active crafter and accomplished decorating do-it-yourselfer. She enjoyed quilting and amassed large, diverse doll and Santa collections.
Jean is lovingly survived by her son Steven (Nancy Higgins) Fritz and their sons Eric and Richard, all of Plover; Wyatt (Nancy Neve) Fritz, Richland, Michigan, their son Wyatt E. (Holly Hanneman) Fritz, Schofield and great-grandson: Maddox Gaetke, Wisconsin Rapids; special cousin Gary (Debra Hatley) Fritz, Concord, North Carolina; sister: Irene Gehm, Wausau; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Fritz, Adams; special family members Anna and Jon Perrin, and many beloved nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Arnold; her parents George and Alma; 2 sisters: Joyce Voigt and Bonnie Wright; 4 brothers-in-law: Earl Voigt, James Meek, Wilbur Fritz, Louis Harding; 1 sister-in-law: Adeline (Fritz) Harding.
Jean's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and Comfort Care nurses that cared for Jean while residing at Pine Ridge Assisted Living facility. A memorial will be set up in her name at a later date.
